It's interesting. I thought about adding some stuff to this blog because of the way it says "Hill Valley Edition." Schwartz and I have had long conversations about this insane level of detail through the trilogy, most of which is nicely laid out in Wikipedia. For instance, you can watch the progression of storefronts throughout downtown Hill Valley from the 1800s to the the future and see how families changed the family business, what went out of business, et cetera. It's just a very detailed movie.

So detailed, that I wondered if that "Hill Valley Edition" note on the USA Today was actually a commentary on media corporatization. Did Robert Zemeckis know in the '80s that media companies would shrink the newspaper industry in the future and conglomerates would take over? So much so that USA Today would have dominion over everyone, including intensely local news? I really want to know.

If I had to guess, I figure the studio pitched USA Today to pay to be in the movie much like studios did in "Wayne's World" and "The Island." Obviously, having USA Today in the movie makes it more profitable than creating a fictional paper.

Another thing I've always loved about this: local news that's the equivalent of a car crash someone making it on the front page of the nation's largest newspaper. Maybe there's some mega-hyper-ultra zoned edition in 2015? Also, headline in the sidebar...."President says she's tired." Sarah Palin 2012??

My first exposure to conspiracy theorists was when this movie came out and the lunchroom informant told me that "Oh yeah, they have hoverboards already, they've existed for awhile. But THE PARENTS won't let them be released."

I vaguely remember Barry Schwartz informing me that someone had, in fact, invented a hoverboard or was close to it some years ago.
