Buy my kind-of aunt’s newly released book

stay-close-libby-cataldi

Libby Cataldi‘s first book, “Stay Close: A Mother’s Story of Her Son’s Addiction,” was released today. I had to drive about 40 minutes out to the Barnes & Noble in Alpharetta to snag a copy since it’s not available everywhere (for now). I’m only about 15 pages in, but I had a chance to read some of the chapters before the book was published as Cataldi — or “Aunt Libby” as she is known in the Cribbs household back in Owings, Md. — sent chunks of her manuscript to my mother and I to check out last summer. ‘Obsessed’ kills it, called most important freaking movie ever

obsessed-poster

I’ve been uniquely interested in “Obsessed” since its trailer was released a few weeks ago. Aside from the fact that Ali Larter is hot, Beyonce is hot and Idris Elba is Idris Elba, the casting of the movie seemed very deliberate. I haven’t seen a mainstream movie about a black couple antagonized by a white woman. Continue reading ‘‘Obsessed’ kills it, called most important freaking movie ever’

Russell, Bale to scorch planet while making next movie

So, uh, you’ve got David O. Russell…

Total nutjob. Completely insane. Documented altercations with several actors including George Clooney and Lily Tomlin. Kind of brilliant, too, “I Heart Huckabees” and “Three Kings” considered. But a nutjob nonetheless. Continue reading ‘Russell, Bale to scorch planet while making next movie’

Photos from Zombie’s ‘H2′ shoot in Decatur

Found a few awful photos I took with a point-and-click when Rob Zombie swung through Decatur while shooting “H2″ (or “Halloween 2″) in February. Here they are:

Zombie's crew transformed the recently shuttered Wordsmith's bookstore into Leeland Books where the character Dr. Loomis, played by Malcolm McDowell, signs copies of his new book about Michael Myers.

The town of Haddonfield, Ill., hosts its Halloween Festival the day Dr. Loomis comes to Leeland Books. Again, Decatur doubled for Haddonfield, which I don't believe exists.

Also, if you’re at all interested, Zombie already cut a full theatrical trailer for the movie, which opens in August. It looks decent. They notably removed Michael’s mask. Looks kinda crazy.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in "500 Days of Summer"

Part of a series of reviews from 2009’s Atlanta Film Festival.

I’ve seen “500 Days of Summer,” and one thing is completely clear.

People are going to see the crap out of this goddamn movie. Continue reading ‘REVIEW: ’500 Days of Summer’’
