If I were to make a Top 10 list of my favorite movies for 2010, it’d look like this:
1. “The Fighter”
2. “The Kids Are All Right”
3. “The Social Network”
4. “True Grit”
5. “Inception”
6. “Unstoppable”
7. “I Am Love”
8. “Easy A”
9. “Toy Story 3″
10. “127 Hours”
Yeah, it’d look something like that. And that’s completely unacceptable. Because, of those 10, I only consider the first three to be great movies. Maybe only the first two. And “Toy Story 3″ and “127 Hours?” Decent movies I couldn’t honestly care less about. That said, I still have to see the following movies, which I’m praying will help fill out the list:
“Somewhere” dir. Sofia Coppola
“Black Swan” dir. Darren Aronofsky
“Rabbit Hole” dir. John Cameron Mitchell
“Blue Valentine” dir. Derek Cianfrance
Problem is, I’ve heard mixed reviews about all four. Who knows how this year got so disappointing. The economy, probably. That and the continued migration of the major studios to family-oriented tent poles. Very few mid-budgeted adult flicks are getting green-lit these days, and even accomplished, prestigious helmers like Aronofsky are still doing their movies on tiny, single-digit budgets. Only Fincher got to screw around with $50 million. The Coen Brothers probably got a nice little budget too, but they’ve had to work their asses off to get that, and it’s their biggest grosser ever.
I’m also gonna have to check some of the overseas stuff I missed that’s supposed to be great such as “A Prophet” and “Mother” and maybe “Valhalla Rising.” Just for kicks here’s the rest of my list, all the way to the worst crap I’ve seen:
11. “You Don’t Know Jack”
12. “Green Zone”
13. “Restrepo”
14. “Enter the Void”
Movies that are just OK
15. “Iron Man 2″
16. “She’s Out of My League”
17. “The Town”
18. “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”
19. “Get Him to the Greek”
20. “The Good Guy”
21. “Knight and Day”
Movies that sucked
22. “Shutter Island” (It hurts me to type that.)
23. “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” (Hurts me even more to type that.)
24. “The Killer Inside Me”
24. “Winter’s Bone”
25. “Date Night”
26. “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”
27. “MacGruber”
“MacGruber” felt like torture. “MacGruber” made me understand what it was like for those so-called terrorists we imprisoned in Abu Gharib and subjected to Metallica recordings. “MacGruber” made me want to destroy myself.

I’m sorry that your heart is dead inside.
What about this suggests my heart is dead?
